Miradi ya Gesi ya Samadi Dodoma (MIGESADO)

MIGESADO  is the Swahili acronym for Dodoma Biogas and Other Alternative Energies.  MIGESADO is an NGO for developing alternative energy sources in Dodoma .  It was started in 1994 and registered 1999.  The head office is based in Dodoma Municipality.  The objective of MIGESADO  is to conserve the environment by the use of biogas as an alternative source of energy in rural areas.   The context under which the organisation initiated was serious deforestation in Dodoma Region caused by demands on fuelwood both in rural and urban areas, heavy workload for rural women in fetching firewood and water, and high prices for urban charcoal users.

 Therefore, the aims of the MIGESADO among others are:

• To reduce the use of firewood through biogas and improved firewood stoves technology,

• To reduce rural women's workload,

• To associate livestock and agriculture through the use of biogas
