Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute, Ukiriguru (MATI-U)
The
Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute Ukiriguru
(MATIU) is the oldest agricultural Institute in Tanzania.
It started formal long-term training courses in January 1939 involving
especially extensionists. It is government institutes under the Ministry of
Agriculture and Food Security in the Department of Training Institutes.
The aim of the institute is to implement the policies of the Ministry of
Agriculture and Food Security oriented at training agricultural technicians and
farmers on improved agriculture and community d e v e l o p m e n t strategies.
MATIU
has been established on the land stretched along the foot of the hills of Ukiriguru
and Nyarnule in Missungwi District, Mwanza Region.
It is at the altitude of 1198 metres above see level, longitude of 30°c 1’E
and Latitude of 1°42’S covering area of 215 hectares.
MATIU is 27 Kilometres from Mwanza City along
the Mwanza-Shinyanga Highway.
Offers training on improved biomass stove to trainers and farmers,
Disseminates improved stoves through women training on stove construction and demonstrates the use of ceramic stoves in order to scale up use of improved energy technologies in rural and urban areas
Involve villagers in the production and marketing of improved woodfuel stoves
