Himo Environment Management Trust Fund (HEMTF)
HEMTF started in 1990 as a cooperation between the Tanzania Environmental Society (TESO) and the German Agro Action Deutsche Welthungerhife (GAA). The organisation was initially organized to disseminate knowledge on tree nurseries and tree growing. The objective was to motivate and support individual farmers, groups, and institutions to establish private tree nurseries. The main focus of HEMTF was on smallholder farmers who generate more than 80 percent of their income from agriculture, schools and local self help groups. The organisation has the following objectives
to manage and protect the natural resources such as soil, water and vegetation in Kilimanjaro Region
to improve farms in Kilimanjaro Region and increase income of target groups
The selected main activities of this organisation are private tree nursery establishment, improved stove production training and involving the artisans and staff in the construction of improved institutional stoves.
