Global Bio-Pact Project

The Global-Bio-Pact project aims at developing and harmonising global sustainability certification systems for biomass production, conversion systems and trade in order to prevent negative socio-economic impacts. The Global-Bio-Pact project consists of 9 work packages (WP) with a total duration of three years. TaTEDO staff have played a part in the international workshops in Costa Rica and Indonesia.

TaTEDO through the Global Bio-pact Project has initiated analysis of a case study on socio-economic impacts of Jatropha production, processing and marketing in Tanzania by a company, at region level and local communities. The sites considered appropriate for this study are Kisarawe District in the Coast Region, Arusha Region and Leguruki Village in Meru District.

Enabling Access to Sustainable Energy (EASE)

The EASE Programme is a North-South collaborative initiative originally involving the Netherlands in the north and three developing countries in the south namely Bolivia in South America, Tanzania in Africa, and Vietnam in Asia. EASE has an overall goal of contributing to poverty reduction by meeting the energy demands of the poor.

 

The project activities performed in 2010 include capacity building, solar drying, gender mainstreaming, support to gender network and training strategy. Most of project activities were carried out during January to June 2010. Implementation of the project activities slowed down during June to December 2010.

Community Based REDD Mechanisms for Sustainable Forest Management in Semi-Arid Areas

The Community Based REDD pilot project focuses on strengthening and supporting local communities to continue managing their community forests (Ngitilis) in a sustainable manner using carbon incentives resulting from REDD.

 

The purpose of project is to assist 250 Ngitili owners in 10 villages of Shinyanga rural and Kahama districts in order to establish a robust local institutional framework that will effectively manage the restored Ngitilis to capture benefits arising from REDD. The project so far has managed to map Ngitilis, build 80 improved stoves, construct 5 biogas plants and distribute more than 150,000 seedlings to the beneficiaries.
